This is the story of 16 notable aircraft used in bush flying—that is, flying into remote and northern areas of Canada from just after the First World War to the time of the book’s publication (2002). The author traces the development of these aircraft from their wood-frame beginnings to metal, from biplane to monoplane, from flying boats to planes with floats. There are water bombers and Beavers and Otters. All of the aircraft have lovely colour photographs to illustrate them, and each aircraft has its share of derring-do and amazing exploits.
