I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Someone has been killing women during rain storms. The police’s only witness is an elerly woman that witnessed the abduction. Now every woman in Glendale is on high alert, looking for a man in a suit with an umbrella. Will they catch the serial killer before he kills again? What’s with his fixation with Karen Stainer?

This book puts you on an emotional rollercoaster as you wonder, could it be him? The development of the story was well paced and made this a great page turner. Although this was book 4, it’s very good as a standalone. My only issue with the novel was that I feel that I was left hanging. We do find out who the killer is, but no reason why he started doing it or anything about him. There are loose ends that I felt would have satisfied my curiosity and made this a five star novel.

This was a new mystery series for me, and I enjoyed certain aspects of it. It was a procedural which I enjoy. The best part for me was that the lead investigator was a woman, and while she faced a certain amount of misogynistic reactions from some of the men she supervised, on the whole not much time was wasted on sexist remarks or treatment. Besides that, she wasn't described innumerable times as beautiful, gorgeous or as so sexy men couldn't take their eyes off her. She established professional relationships with the men on her team and they treated each other with mutual respect for the most part.
It was also a welcome change for the primary characters to either be comfortably single or happily married. No one was having an affair with any one on the side.
A minor annoyance was the detailed descriptions of local roads and driving directions. I'm not from the area, there was no map provided, so reading the details was a waste of time for me.

I received this book as an Early Review item. Although the first murder and investigation were interesting, the book tended to drag in the middle. The two separate criminal acts did eventually connect and the murders were suddenly solved. I did not realize until I finished the book that it was book 3 in the series, which explains some of the references to earlier cases. It also explains why I felt like I was missing something about the characters interaction.

I found this book really tedious and it just didn't interest me. I stopped reading it about half way through (I feel I gave it a good go) but it just didn't grab me.
