A collection of five stories all set around Halloween. Each tale features a woman, married or in a long-term relationship, who hooks up with someone other than her partner. Usually, the partner is involved (or at least present) and each has a happy ending (or sometimes several) free of angst. I particularly enjoyed the first three stories which are told exclusively from the woman’s perspective.

These are novella-length stories so they don’t take long to get to the good stuff, but author Kirsten McCurran has a knack for rounding out her characters and making them more relatable. And when it comes, the aforementioned “good stuff” is wild, rough, and scorchingly hot.

Stacey is in her late 30s and is happily married to Tim. They have two children. As this story begins, the children are away for the weekend and they have spent the day with Alex, Tim's best friend who briefly went out with Stacey before she and Tim got together in college.

Alcohol has been consumed and they're all relaxed and flirting and after teasing her reading some choice passages from her eBook reader, the guys decide to see if Stacey likes being restrained as much as the heroine of her steamy romance novel does... and the scene is set!

This is a great fantasy. All three participants know each other well and Stacey has slept with both men before - though one was twenty years earlier. The two guys do a fabulous job teasing and edging Stacey as their play becomes more and more daring.

Kirsten McCurran has conjured up three likeable characters who are very comfortable exploring their fantasies together. Usually I prefer my erotica to come from just one character's perspective but here we're regularly switching between the three and getting a good handle on how, and what, they are feeling.

All in all this is a fabulous fantasy and a great escape from the worries of the world, and who doesn't need that once in a while?

Recommended.

Two couples sit around a tree on Christmas Eve. A few drinks and a some reminiscing lead them to cross boundaries they never expected to, and a splendid time is had by all concerned.

The copyright history of this story suggests it is about twenty years old. Kirsten's writing has improved noticeably over that time, but this is still a great, hot scene - if a little awkwardly phrased at times, with some grammar issues that aren't terrible, but in twenty years could probably have been addressed.

However, it IS still a fun story. As believable as any tale of two married couples spontaneously switching partners can be, and a sooo much better told in writing with some character insight than any video alternative.

And whatever you do, DO try this at home should the opportunity present!

"Watching Cara was the hottest thing he’d ever seen."

Short and sweet and hot and taboo.

I've no problem with a clichéd plot when the author breathes life into the characters as well as Kirsten McCurran does here. I love that there was doubt and awkwardness in there around and during the smut. I also like that there was no emphasis on humiliation of the husband - a great consensual time is had by all!

4.5 "raw and tender" stars. You'll know if this this story is your thing, and if it is, this is a good one.½

The BBC rom-com you never knew you needed!

And no, I don't mean the TV network.

I love this book. Jessica and Kyle are new in the neighborhood. She strikes up a friendship with a neighbour and the neighbour sets his sights on being "more than friends" with Jessica. Not a cheating book though as Kyle gives his blessing to the whole "affair".

This sounds like a porn film plot, but the story here is a slow-burn romance with sensitivity and insight into both Jessica and Kyle's feelings and motivations, and also those of the neighbour and Jessica's BFF. And the sex, when it happens, is hot!

Very highly recommended. Avoid if extra-marital relationships bother you, but everything here is open and consensual. End-of-year Top Ten material for me for sure, probably Top Five.

Cute little book about a woman and man who have allowed marriage and kids to take the "fun" out of life. So together they go out and play a game at the bar. It is all fun and games until it may go too far. Not sure how I like how far it went but they got over it and so did I.
