I didn't know if I would learn a lot more about FB, since I have been on FB for a while now. However, this book is very comprehensive for different groups or topics that could be explored. It is especially valuable to a FB newbie who is starting out with a slow feed with few friends. Joining several groups of interest is a way to meet new people and enjoy reading while trying to locate friends and family. This book lists quality resources. This is not a gamer's resource, and that was why I liked it even more.

This is a book that should be recommended reading for everyone getting an Amazon Fire Stick for Christmas this year. From information on setting up a new Fire Stick or Amazon Cube TV to advanced instruction on voice activating commands, there is something to be learned in the Amazon Fire TV For Dummies book for the newbie and the experienced user.

I’ve had an Amazon Stick for several years and thought myself competent using it. The remote that came with the unit served for inputting programming search terms and for entering App usernames and passwords. Fortunately, I haven’t had a lot of login needs. In the first half of this book, the author introduced the Fire TV cell phone app and, in doing so, taught me how to handle search terms and my login input needs using the app’s keyboard. The app made search and logon information input quick and less painless. Whereas, doing the same tasks using the fire stick’s remote was time-consuming and torturous.

Having Echo devices throughout the house, I dare not say “Alexa” unless I intend to activate one of them. Therefore, voice commands using the Fire Stick’s remote do not interest me as you have to precede the command with “Alexa”. I, therefore, paid less attention to the chapters about Fire TV voice commands. Neglecting these chapters is not a bad thing since, in the book’s introductory, the author recommends, even encourages, you to skip around through the book to subjects that interest you or that you are most in need of at the time. I started doing just that after reading straight through the book’s first half as I found myself daydreaming as I got into chapters that were less relevant to me. Amazon Fire TV For Dummies isn’t a novel, it is designed to be a reference book. So, don’t feel compelled to read it fully and consecutively, review the index, and read the chapters that interest you at the time. You can then put it down and refer to it again when there is another feature you want to learn about. Thinking of ‘Amazon Fire TV For Dummies’ as a reference book makes it more likely that you’ll order it for your library.

I love the visualness of it, and the explanations are fairly clear. But there's a *lot* that's not included.½

Had to learn Excel in one evening so I could take an Excel test. This book was easy to follow and hit all the important parts. I passed the test. If I actually have to use Excel, I can see that this book would be very helpful.

I got this book on the Amazon Vine reviewer program, so I got it for free. Which is good, because a $25, I am not sure that you can say it is worthwhile. I also got the book because my mother just got an iPad 2 (now that the 3 has come out, the 2's are cheaper) and this means I can give the book to her and she can use it before calling me.

Where does this book go wrong? Too many colored fonts is one thing. And then too many cutsey graphics. Why all the blue boxes behind important information with a stylized white line that bleeds out some of the text?

The main problem that the author who I think has his template for the ipad and updates a few lines when a new one is released, is that of timing. I have an iPad 2 and there is nothing here that I can not do, even though the book is for the 3. So the book is really written to the iOS. And that is about to change in a few short months. (3?)

That the author had to write the book after the hardware came out, means we should have seen this book ASAP when the iPad was first released. Instead it is coming out for reviews now in July? (Or that it only has 3 reviews and has sparked the need for more reviews)

In any event the book is good for everything that you get on the iPad. But what else. Even a Dummies book will have 10 apps recommended to make your iPad experience better. The aurhor does not speak to all the things to make the tablet that much more powerful.

The Apple Store geniuses won't tell you of any great App that can make your iPad so powerful that it blows things away, like AirVideo. an App that means that you can have video on your home drives and your iPad can stream that content (terrabytes of movies) anywhere there is wi-fi. Ask an Apple Genius on Apple's sanctified ground and since Apple doesn't sell it, (2.99) they tell you to download movies into iTunes (taking double space on your hard drive) and then downloading from there onto your iPad, taking valuable memory. (Not a plug. I don't have anything to do beyond being a user. But I put all my DVD collection on my Mac and was able to watch movies in the lobby of my hotel in Chicago for free with the movies on my hard dirve in California.)

This is the perfect book to cite 10, 20, even 50 invaluable apps that make the iPad transcend. To take beginners to a level that the Geniuses of Apple should. And for $25 it should. As a Trade Paperback, $15 is probably a price point for such a resource.

The redeeming feature is that you would want a real book in your hand to guide you on the use of the iPad instead of an eBook which you would have to leave the iBooks app to go test or configure your iPad and then return to reading. (Wait, I don't think we discussed how to have many programs open at once and how to switch between them easily except for two paragraphs on the subject. Author McFedries maybe it's time to write a chapter about that, since you don't deal with that in depth and this is a very useful feature.)½

A terrific introduction to Twitter; for the advanced use, there's not much here. I pulled out a few URLs for further investigation, though. My biggest complaint with this book, oddly, was the binding. Difficult to hold the book open without breaking the binding, which was also, well, difficult to break.

This book is wonderful for the new Twitter user, or someone considering Twitter, but as a seasoned Twitter veteran - so to speak - I found much of the information redundant and I had to force myself to not skip past many of the earlier chapters.

I did find a few things interesting: like a few of the sites mentioned in the last chapter, and the handy table of text commands (most of which I have to admit I wasn't even aware of) - and the tidbit that the same commands worked in the third party clients (I only knew d username message to send a direct message worked as such).

This book will be the most useful to someone who has either a) never pointed their browser to the Twitter site or b) has an account but only ever uses the site to update or check their timeline. Anyone else will be bored from most of the information given.

An excellent book on the inner workings of Twitter. Who knew that such a simple interface could bring such complexities. Highly recommended for beginner and more advanced Tweeters. (@mrstreme if you want to follow me!).

I bought this book last week for $4 because I still maintain a Windows 98 machine for the kids. I figured it would be handy to have sitting there for when the computer decides to act up.½
