The End of the Straight and Narrow contains some really excellent sparse religion-influenced prose. The author is a professor at my college and I had the chance to discuss it with him; the collection matches his unassuming intellect and easy-going personality. Despite his faith, not all the essays reflect flatteringly upon organized religions and often lead the reader to reflect on their own faith tradition, while many have a great sense of sly humor. I highly reccomend this!

David McGlynn’s debut collection of short stories is a compelling examination of how our faith affects our daily lives. Each story is exquisitely written and completely satisfying. Especially compelling are the connected stories of Part II which focuses on the family of a woman blinded while giving birth. As McGlynn is a lifelong swimmer and diver, water and swimming appear prominently in many of the stories.
