Elsie and Theodore are new to the neighborhood. They visit each of their new neighbors in search of carrots. None have any, but they offer something new to try. They decide to make a soup with the gifts, inviting their new friends to share. Watercolor illustrations. Includes recipe for vegetable soup using the ingredients mentioned in the story.

This story is a warm and comforting trade book. It is about a young bunny who is asking her mother questions that all start with, "Mama, if you had a wish...". She asks her mother if she would change things about her, such as the way she cries. The mother always says no, and it is obvious she wants the little bunny to be herself. This could be used in the classroom because it is a predictable book, and children who cannot read yet can join in. This could also be used in the classroom for teaching about self confidence and self acceptance. That is, after all, what the message of the book is. The illustrations in this book are cooler tones, but they are pleasant. They go well with the comforting tone of the story.… (mehr)

This book was about a child bunny, and a mother bunny. The child bunny keeps asking the mom that if he made different mistakes, or if he did certain things, would his mom still love him. Throughout the story the mom keeps reminding him that she would love him no matter what. I think this story is good for classrooms in the future because it shows that even if children makes mistakes, you are still loved by someone. I am rating this book five out of five stars because of the message it gives. Throughout the book it has illustrations of the bunny making mistakes, and the mom being okay with it. The illustrations are full of water colors. They aren't clear pictures, the paint was running together. It helps create the story, because the pictures weren't perfect, and either was the child bunny. A teacher could use this book in a classroom by showing them that making mistakes is okay. No one is ever perfect. The students just need to learn from their mistakes.… (mehr)

Summary

Little Rabbit ask his mother a number of questions about if she had a wish what would she change about him. In the end she tells him “I wish for you to be yourself” “because I love you just the way you are.”

Personal Reaction

I remember being a child and trying so hard to be the son I thought my mother wanted me to be. Little did I know at the time she accepted me just as I was.

Classroom Extension Ideas:

1. Ask the children if they had a wish what would they change about their parents or siblings.

2. Have the children to explain why they believe Rabbit thought his mom wanted to change something about him.
