In addition to The Dust-Covered Days of Dorie Archer being quite entertaining, it is informative. Barbara Eymann Mohrman has taken the time to thoroughly research the time period and events that would have taken place, and has created a story to mirror what it was like living through the Dust Bowl. The sketches add a little bit of brain food to help the reader wrap their heads around this difficult time, and the author's illustrative style of writing brings it all full circle. Exceptional story, amazing detail and fascinating reading.

This important book should be on the reading list of every upper elementary and middle school student as they embark on their Nebraska education classes. I am an adult and I enjoyed the charming story too. The adult story, Four Blue Stars in the Window, is a great background to this book as well. After I read that, my daughter became interested in the Dust Bowl, so we recommended The Dust Covered Days of Dorie Archer to our mom/daughter bookclub. They LOVED it! Great topic to discuss with children, interesting book that all can learn from. Highly recommended!
