Not always easy to work with, Agent Bernadette Saint Clare has been assigned and reassigned to FBI offices all over the country. Not long after she’s placed at a desk in the basement of the off-site St. Paul office, she’s called on to do what she does best: use personal effects found at a crime scene to see through a killer’s eyes. I enjoyed this book, it looks to be the start of a good series. It has some interesting characters, both living and ghostly. It's nice that the main character's power is imperfect, it's flawed, it isn't easy to use and can be dangerous. A couple of unique things about the story are how Saint Clare got her 'power' and that she can do a lot more than just see dead people. I look forward to the next book.… (mehr)

As a white Halloween hits Minnesota, the lone FBI Agent in St. Paul, Bernadette Saint Clare ponders the deaths of six female college students in the past few months. There were four watery deaths either in the Mississippi or in bath tubs at the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus while two perished in water at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. Though there is no evidence linking the six deaths or of foul play, she wonders if these so called troubled coeds were murdered by a clever serial killer.

The second FBI Agent Saint Clare thriller after "Blind Spot" is an engaging serial killer investigative tale starring an interesting lead character. The inquiry is fun to follow as the star struggles with simply connecting the dots beyond age, gender, and water to make a case that a serial killer is loose. Entertaining as the storyline is, the paranormal subplot comes from out of jarringly nowhere with no explanation why or how she has a "wireless" ghostly contact to assist her. Still fans of FBI serial killer investigations will enjoy Terri Persons' solid police procedural.

Bernadette St. Clare is an FBI agent with a special talent. If she holds an object that belonged to a victim she can see through the killer's eyes. This makes her a "strange cookie" so to speak with fellow agents and other law enforcement officers.

She was transferred to St. Paul in a dank, closed basement office. She feels she is being punished and people don't want to work with her because of her 'sight'. Tony Garcia is her supervisor and wants to believe in what she can do but is skeptical.

Soon after she arrives bodies with their hands cut off start appearing. Soon it is discovered that all of the victims had done something wrong in their past. The reader can actually feel Tony sitting on the fence as to whether he should believe the leads that Bernadette discovers with her gift or not.

The tension builds as they get closer to discovering who the murderer is and both of them could die in the last battle.

There is also a building relationship with a new neighbor of Bernadette's but I feel that situation has been over done in some paranormal books.
