This almost gets on the chubby shelf with the size 12 heroine, but there was minimal angst around that. Good lord, but did Vi resonate with me. Bloody hell. I really, really liked this. I'm not usually one for chick lit but a plus-sized damaged rocker chick? Yes, please. I'll even forgive the love triangle. I want to find more like this one! Perfect rainy-day-off-work reading!

If there's one genre that I love just as much as urban fantasy it's chick lit. I adore chick lit for a variety of reasons, but the most important one is that it teaches you something new in a non-preachy, very subtle way. If you pay attention to details, there's always a life lesson hidden behind the funny, quirky characters and hilarious situations. Keeping Secrets in Seattle is no different.

I absolutely adored Violet. There was something very unique about her. Her love for vintage clothing made me immediately like her. Her style in general was just awesome and it made me very sad that she's not a real person, because she gave me that feeling that if you respect her and treat her right, she'd be your bestie. I understood her fear of confessing her love for her best friend. It was hard to see her struggle with that, especially given her past. Underneath her vintage clothing and unconventional hairstyle, she's a really strong person. And it made me sad that she had to go through what she did alone.

Speaking of her best friend. Gabe was a strange character. I can't say that I loved the guy, but I didn't dislike him either. It was just so hard to believe that he was clueless about Violet's feelings. I just can't believe that. If in fact he had no clue, boy is he blind! And if he did know about how she felt, he was cruel. But you know what they say, the heart wants what it wants. I was sad for Landon. He really was a great guy. If I could pick between the two of them, I'd pick Landon. Okay, yes, he does have a motorcycle, but that's beside the point *coughs*.

I can't say I was surprised by some of the things that happened. Even so, they were done in such a way that didn't seem cliche. And I loved the diary notes. Those were fun and it really felt like reading a diary entry. There were some hilarious moments in this book too. I did giggle a few times. All in all, Keeping Secrets in Seattle was a quick, fun read and it showed me once again why I love this genre.

Keeping Secrets in Seattle by Brooke Moss was a cute romantic novel about childhood best friends. This novel was different than most of the modern romantic stories out there. This novel showed how a lot of times life gets in the way of love especially when bad things have happened to one or both of the party.

Violet Murphy had been best friends with Gabe Parker since kindergarten when they met on the playground. Their families lived next door to each other and Violet was a part of Gabe’s family. His parents were like her second family. Violet had always been in love with Gabe. When they were in high school they dated for a very short time before Gabe caught her cheating with his friend, Cameron. Did he really see what he thought he saw though? Violet had been keeping the secret of what really happened that night for nine years. When Gabe tells her that he is engaged to a woman that Violet couldn’t stand, Violet is heartbroken because she never got to tell Gabe how she really felt. Now is the time to tell him all her secrets! But will she be able to and will he listen to her? Will they ever both admit their love for each other or will they both marry different people? Everyone moves on from their childhood friends right?

I thought this was a cute storyline with some hard hitting facts. I enjoyed how each chapter started out with a snippet from her journals, which gave you a glimpse of what happened in the past. I would give Keeping Secrets in Seattle a 3 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this story to anyone that likes a good solid romance.

Review:

"Keeping Secrets in Seattle" by Brooke Moss was a wonderful romantic story. This author did good at making the reader feel all of the conflict that was involved along with the desperation and then love. I enjoyed the diary that started every chapter and some of the laughter was good and well needed. We find this story is of Violet who is about to confess her love to her best friend, Gabe only to find out he is now engaged to another girl and she has even agreed to be Gabe's best man. Will she be able to move on after she meets a new guy (Landon) that has entered her life and tell her that he loves her? From "Violets tattoos, hair color and vintage clothing is a secret that she has kept to herself for ten years. "What was it that these two ...Violet and Gabe could not talk about what had happened 'That Night?' Now, to get all of this you must pick up "Keeping Secrets in Seattle" to find out what happened. I liked the way the story was told from Violet's point of view which gave the reader the emotional ride that she went through from the past to the present. The characters were all very deeply well developed giving the reader not only a very interesting but a entertaining read that was a good story about the childhood sweethearts that fall in love.

I loved these two quotes from the read:

"Real love takes work and effort and time. Real love is willing to wait while you sort your shit out, and is still there once you get your head in straight."

and

"I put my cup down and stared at my mom. I was getting love advice from Fourth Marriage Barbie now? What's next?"

"Keeping Secrets in Seattle" was truly a wonderful well written novel that was funny, sweet but also a emotional read. Would I recommend this novel? YES!
