Jane Mykle (1916–1995)

Jane Mykle was born Axeliane Christine Zetlitz Kielland Holm in Bergen, Norway. She studied at schools in Norway and then in London and Paris, and worked as a flower decorator, glove maker, and at various other jobs. She met writer Agnar Mykle in 1939 and married him in 1942. Together they became pioneers in Norwegian puppetry after working with the famed Marcel Temporal Troupe in Paris. In 1949, the Mykles established the Norwegian Puppet Theater in collaboration with the Folketeatret, and wrote a textbook on the art of puppetry together.

Agnar Mykle's son from his first marriage, Arne Bust Mykle, eventually took over the Norwegian Puppet Theater with his then-wife Bjørg Mykle. Jane later became a local politician and was elected to the Asker municipal council from 1968 to 1983, and to the county council in Akershus.
