I highly recommend this book for anyone who is considering or has already adopted a child from foster care. Carolyn Nash writes about her experience raising a child that was placed with her at age three. The child, Abel, has severe PTSD and through therapeutically parenting him, the author learns about her own troubled past. I read the entire book in less than a day. I just couldn't put it down. There are so many parallels between Abel and my kids that I adopted from foster care that kept me engrossed. Plus, the author does an excellent job of describing the love and frustration involved in raising a child challenged by trauma.… (mehr)

This was a good short read. The characters were surprisingly real for such a short piece. The author does a good job of injecting emotion into the piece. My feelings ranged from annoyance to relief. I did actually well up at some points.

The style was very descriptive and fast paced, the world easily came alive in my mind.

My only issue was I felt Callie sometimes came across as whiny. I know the reason why, and it was needed, but it might have been overdone just a touch with a couple too many examples. I found myself thinking, 'yes, she is a control freak, we know that already' a couple if times. I was supposed to get annoyed with the character, not the author. This was an intense thrill-ride. I sat down and read this in one sitting. I just had to know how it ended, and at only 110 pages, that was totally doable. And what an emotional couple of hours it was! I should have known this was not the right book to read when I was looking for something less emotionally involved than my last book. I was TOTALLY emotionally involved the whole time in this Kindle Single!! And it was so worth it.

I loved Jennifer. She felt real...like a real Mom and a real person who might have seen a little hand in a trunk and is faced with the scary dilemma of what to do. I did not like Stephen, though. And I did not like how much Jennifer still liked him after his snide almost-remark about her weight. But that is my only complaint about this Single, is his character.

I've seen this story get a lot of negative criticism about their flirtation in the middle of all the chaos. I can see, however, how it would be plausible. It is a stressful situation, and emotions run high, and they fall for each other. It's a Kindle Single...if you're going to have romance, it has to happen somewhere, right? Anyway, I thought it was within a reasonable stretch of the imagination for them to have a flirtation.

Overall, I recommend this book for anyone who wants a quick read of nice, solid, heart-pounding action.
