William Reed Newell (1865-1956) was born in Savannah, Ohio, and studied at the College of Wooster and Princeton Theological Seminary. After a brief pastoral ministry, he assumed the post of assistant superintendent of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago from 1896 to 1898.
