Kaare Nygaar

the author is clearly quite a remarkable person. His major role seems to have been as a surgeon but he's also led a remarkable double life as a sculptor ....mainly modelling and casting in bronze. And his sculpture is good. Maybe sometimes great. And I must give credit where it is due: the photographs are superb. Most of them seem to have been taken by Amy Binder. Well full marks to Amy and the other couple of photographers. I noted that after some 50 years as a surgeon, Kaare was asked to give some master classes in sculpture at a New York University. So clearly his talent as a sculptor was recognised. I was also impressed with his honesty about the creative input...basically confessing that he wasn't quite clear about that ...or why he was trying to "say" with his work. I'm currently having to downsize my library, and this book, unfortunately is one of the casualties. But three stars from me.… (mehr)
