Clever book. It takes time to read cover to cover because of small font and some of the jokes are a little too crude to read a lot of in one setting, but it's worth eventually reading everything. There's gems everywhere, and for some reason I'm impressed that a satire book has impeccable editing even with odd ball grammar situations. However, there were two times the maps were off, like Libya's inset map was of Sudan, the previous country as the book worked in its geographic direction. As a Canadian I loved the Canadian page, but also Madagascar and Greenland stand out now that I've finished. It's fascinating how The Onion incorporated raw fact, slight ironic twist on fact, and outrageous stereotypes. It's something of a mind game to look past inner laughter and decipher which statements are which. Being a geography nerd likely enhances the experience because it's easier to appreciate where certain comments origin and adds to the game, "Fact, Fiction, or Both?" Also, the cover is priceless. All in all, I'll leave this book in the living room to mess with people who visit me.

hilarious satire encyclopaedia. Right up my ally. "Chinese food: a popular type of American cuisine"
read abridged audiobook but would love to get hardcover.

Collection of Onion Christmas articles, some excellent but mostly skippable. A reminder why I stopped visiting the site so often.

If you've read "The Onion", you know what you are getting with "Our Dumb Century"; lots of laughs, as well as some satire that cuts so close to the bone it stops being funny.

Set out as headline stories from throughout the Twentieth Century, with satirical jabs at the eras they were covering, so we get a story from the early 1900s of rich people enjoying the spectacle of poor people dying, then the Titanic makes an appearance, as do wars and the pill. Highly recommended.½

A humorous atlas of the world, by The Onion. Countries presented by their stereotypes, as known in the American pop culture. Some countries entries make no sense.

"The Onion" has been tickling funny bones for decades now and "Our Dumb World" is further evidence that the Onion writers are amongst the best in the funny bone tickling business.

Focusing on nations of the world and their stereotypes, readers may bristle at what "Our Dumb World" choose to satirise but whether it's Australia's deadly animals, the United Arab Emirates's beautiful princess or Greenland's Mercator projection related size, there is much knee slapping to be had.½

Not my type of humor. Not sure it was even humor.

The Onion's "Joe Biden" character is a three-trick pony of a rude joke, but it's all written with surprising commitment and creativity. If I had a print version of this, I'd totally keep it in the bathroom.

A funny book for those who don't take themselves...or their world too seriously. A fun diversion.

Ah, The Onion. When things get too serious, The Onion is always there to provide a chuckle and remind us to lighten up a bit. In the midst of a period of serious reading, The Onion Book of Known Knowledge offered a brief respite of brain candy. Presented alphabetically (with commentary on each letter of the alphabet), the book touches on a variety of subjects ranging from religion to Star Wars to Michael Jordan. I found the book to often be amusing, occasionally getting a laugh -- reminiscent of a similar book (two actually) by John Hodgeman. This book won't enrich your life in any meaningful way -- but if you brain needs a break between reading books on ancient Rome, tribal societies, and the War of 1812; then it makes for a nice diversion.

I super love "Diamond" Joe Biden and have been following him on the Onion. If you haven't, it's a fictionalization of the Vice President painting him as a Trans-am loving poon scorning "sawed-off hellion" rebel and the coolest guy on Capital Hill. When they were promoting this book, the REAL Joe Biden tweeted a picture of himself claiming he actually likes red Corvettes not Trans Ams. So clearly the real Vice President is in on the joke and is promoting it, too cool. I was stuck home with the flu and needed a light read, but this is hysterical!!

Satirical "atlas" of the world. A witty survey of the world in the early 21st century from an American perspective.

A typically humorous Onion look at the events of the 20th century. Most of it is spot on, but there are definitely some misses. The newspaper format works absolutely, as they have endeavored to change the look of the newspaper to match the newspapers of the era being spoofed.
