- Alex grew up in Brooklyn, New York as a gifted and precocious child who spent most of her time reading. She moved to Laguna Beach, California in 1955 with her husband, James Stephen Pelle, who worked as a physicist for Sperry Gyroscope.
She wrote the Kitabu series with Jean-Pierre Hallet, as well as ghost writing Where I Stand for Hank Greenspun. She also wrote short stories, such as Moonlight Becomes you (published in Cosmopolitan, 1968), The Crime of Henry Binion (Knight, 1969), and Play it Cool, Pal (Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, 1968). She had two children, Douglas and Victoria.
Wrote for and collaborated with Jean-Pierre Hallet, son of Andre' Hallet (painter) about the Efe pygmies in the Belgian Congo. Congo Kitabu, Animal Kitabu, Pygmy Kitabu. Also ghost-wrote for Hank Greenspun in Where I Stand.
