In this series of essays, the reader is invited to learn about aspects of a city (specifically Toronto) and how it shapes its residents' experiences. With a focus on diversity, it also looks at various aspects of identity and social-economic backgrounds. Access to services (health, schooling, transit), use of spaces, policing are examples of the many topics broached by some 20 authors.
It's a thorough and interesting work: while there are similar themes, it shows all the complexity of a big city and the many competing interests that are addressed in wildly different fashions based on policy, representation, and assumptions.
