One summer, when I was a young parent, I became interested in geology. I asked for this book, and did get a copy for Christmas. By that time, I had realized what I really wanted to learn about was landforms, geologic events, what the places I saw now had gone through as they changed into their current forms. Rocks were interesting only as part of the whole picture. But still, the book was full of interesting information even though I never used it as a "field guide."
