Throwing Stones: A Short Story von D.M. Pruden
I quite enjoyed this short story of Ben and his AI encountering an asteroid. The only thing that kept me from giving the story the full five stars was the epilogue. It didn't ring true for me, didn't feel realistic. Still, a very well-told, well-thought-out story with good characters.
Armed with a double PhD in medical sciences and nanotech, Mel puts all her life savings into moving from Luna from Earth. Once there, she discovers that she has no job opportunities and can't afford to leave or to stay. She makes the only choice she can, accepting a job aboard a galactic courier.
I really enjoyed this one. Mel is an interesting character. I don't feel like I know her super well after this one novella but I'm intrigued enough that I want to know more.
This snappy little sci-fi novella introduces a clever new heroine and a compelling world. I can't wait to read more in the series.
The Luna Mel finds herself on is very much the one a decade or two post the events of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. The action moves on relatively quickly from there. Aside from the obvious Heinlein comparison, this also reminded me of John Wilker's Grand Human Empire series.… (mehr)

This was an involuntary Jane Bond trying to survive when she didn’t have a lot of options. Not truly amoral but a survivor.
