“Change is possible”
I’ve read a number of self-help books up to this point so I was certain to open the pages to just another “do xyz and your life will be better.” I am so incredibly thankful that was not the case. Each day’s reading ends with a task for the reader to do (for example, take a personality test) and several follow up questions. The questions push you to delve deeper and consider where you’re coming from and where you want to go. At no point does Pulliam push her opinions of success or what life should look like onto the reader. This book truly is for the reader to discover who they are on their own and set realistic goals to get to the place that they want apart from the opinions of others (there’s even a dedicated chapter to that). My favorite part of this book was the emphasis on who you are and the traits you already have, utilizing those to meet your goals instead of trying to be someone you’re not.
If you’re wondering if there were any down sides to this book, even with my 5-star rating, I would have to say no. The only stumbling block I see for some people is that this is a religious guide book. Meaning throughout the book Pulliam suggests advising God on certain goals or praying or learning to be the person God made you. This doesn’t bring the rating down simply because this book is very up front about it being such so you should know what you’re getting into right away. With that said, I think there is value to this book beyond those points and, as with any self-help book, anyone could tweak the advice to fit their life circumstances.
I would highly recommend this book to any Christian woman. Honestly, even if you aren’t Christian and you’re okay skimming over the more religious portions or are able to take away applicable portions of text even if they don’t directly speak to your religious practices, I would recommend this book to you.
Please note: I received this book for free from Blogging for Books in return for my honest review. All words and opinions are my own (as it is always).
I took this 21 day challenge and charted it all out in my book journal and bullet journal. I loved it so much I’m giving away a copy to one lucky reader/ follower along with a few supplies to get you ready to delve in yourself. Check that all out in the post here.… (mehr)
