Robert Rayner is a former elementary school principal. He worked as a journalist in Cambridge, England before turning to education. This book seems like it tries to fit all types of people in. A group of kids gets together to protest and they are an extremely diverse bunch. I wasn't sure what the point of the story was though. I thought they would see similarities in each other and grow close, but they actually didn't. Also, I thought maybe they would see how peaceful protest can accomplish something, but all hell breaks loose. At the end, most everyone in the book seems like they aren't a decent person.

Libby’s Got the Beat is about what you do for fun, and what you do for work, and how sometimes one gets in the way of the other. Libby and her friends, Etta and Celery, love making music, and form a band. At the same time they have to retake the grade five provincial achievement test because they did so poorly the first time they took it. Professor Brayne comes to their school to drill the students in test taking. He puts a ban on sports and music and art so the children can concentrate on preparing for the test.
