Mimi was born in a poor neighborhood of Hong Kong: her childhood is deprived, step by step, of everything a child should deserve: serenity, happiness, play and, finally, even the security of her parents. Thus Mimi finds herself alone, in a Country that she does not know, repudiated by what is left of her family, sold for the most sordid and inhumane reasons. But her desire for freedom is stronger than human’s cruelty: although she has to face a reality that fills her with indignation and horror, she manages to escape and leave her nightmare behind. It seems she has no hopes to survive but, just like a miracle, she meets someone she believes is a good angel sent from heaven to save her. Mimi is greeted in a big organization, regaining the title of ‘daughter’, which she believed she had lost forever, and meeting other girls who have had a troubled story like hers, and who become her sisters. But the reality is not as it seems, and that world is not heaven: her task is to be trained and become a deadly instrument of summary justice, able to bring destruction and even death. The little girl from Hong Kong is now a young and beautiful woman, who knows all the tricks to seduce and carry out her missions. Eventually she will have to make a choice, coming to terms with her past and decide whether to continue in this spiral of violence, into which she has fallen against her will, or terminate with it, following her heart.
This is the second volume of the “Red Hourglass” saga. Though having the same premises this story concentrates on human and social implications. Nevertheless, the description does not miss the basic features of a typical spy novel: conspiracies, magnificence, mysteries, coups de théatre, action and a refined eroticism.

It appeared to have the makings of a genuine thriller. Alas appearances can be deceiving. True it was about a group of (female) assassins with only one 'off screen' murder between them. The rest of the book was a copy of 50 Shades, minus most of the bedroom antics.

The plot and characters were ninety percent identical and details, details still padded many pages.… (mehr)
