Roan Rosser

If you can read this without giggling or smiling at least a little, then I'm not sure if we've read the same book. Rosser did an excellent job of bringing the characters and world to life, infusing magic into the modern world seamlessly. The amount of chaos and the hilarity that ensues means there's never a dull moment once you begin reading. It was nice to see a lighter side of chaos magic, instead of it being a destructive force. Max is an amazing character, and it's hard not to love him. I can't wait to see where the series takes us next!… (mehr)

Pog and eir family are visiting an antique shop when a small statue of a rat calls out for help. No one but Pog can hear the cries. Unwilling to leave a creature in need, Pog enlists the help of a squirrel, a porcupine, and a family of racoons. Together, they set out to rescue the creature trapped in the rat.

This adorable anthropomorphic urban fantasy / paranormal mystery provides a delightful escape and an intro into the author's forthcoming Chaos Menagerie series. I can't wait to read more.… (mehr)

Max has bad luck. Not just a bit of bad luck; we're talking chronic, recurrent, multiple-broken-bones bad luck. He accepts this as his lot in life until one day, things start to get … weird. A red panda Max has drawn crawls off the page, guys in grey robes show up and burn the house down, and Max discovers one of his best friends is an actual witch.

This offbeat urban fantasy novel somehow delivers a powerful story about identity and belonging wrapped in a fun, light-hearted story.

This was an engrossing read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My one complaint was to do with the romance. My usual complaint with romance is that authors tend to use it as a stand-in for character development. In this case, it was the reverse. The characters were full fleshed out but I didn't see any hints of romance until it was explicitly stated. It felt too out of the blue and didn't ring true for me. However, if it was going to go that way, I liked how it was resolved.

All in all, a clear 4.5 stars from me.… (mehr)
