Welcome to the dark side.

The title is appropriate and, like in the Jurassic movies, when they say Run, you Run! You may recognize many of these authors, maybe even spy one of your favorites in these eight novellas. I know I did and they managed to give me plenty of scares. I reviewed this as a hole and individually.

Resurrection Morning by Caleb Pirtle III: This historical fiction takes place during WWII. Spies, secrets, betrayals and lots of action led me on a wild ride, culminating in an ending I never guessed but loved it. 4 Stars

Black Out by Sue Coletta: Do we ever really know our neighbors? What secrets they harbor? What slights they feel? And judging a book by its cover…Now I know where that saying came from and in this case it could be your undoing. So much happens in a short time and she fooled me. 4 Stars

Sweeton’s Shangri-La by Rachel Aukes: A treasure may, a pair of lovers, ad evil god, and an Eden, of sorts. The couple ignores disregards the legend and follows the trail. Predictable but plenty of suspense while I waited for IT to happen.

The Sideshow by Kimberly McGath: Do you like the circus? Welll..this is like no circus you have ever attended. There is danger all around, but I sure did not see where I was going to end up. I enjoy an author that can surprise me. 3 Stars

Three Days by Jennifer Chase: A three day vacation…but it is not the exotic tropical vacation she had envisioned.Three Days could be a Twilight Zone episode. She planned her vaction down to the very last detail, but this trip was impulsive. She went as one person and came back as another. What happened in between is quite the adventure. 4 Stars

Smile For Me by Kristine Mason: Vanity is a curse and Lisa was not happy about getting older. When she saw what Melody’s Grace did for her friend, she signed in. This gruesome haunted house story will make you think twice wishing instead of being thankful for what you have. It made me cringe, want to cover my eyes so I can’t see, and wonder if I really want to know the end of the story. 4 Stars

Bleeder by Paul Dale Anderson: She had put the past behind her…until she opened the door to a man with a gun. And the blood, the smell brought it back to her. Some psychological thrills in this short suspense story. 4 Stars

A Love Story by Kathy Love: They pulled a prank, only it didn’t turn out so funny, in fact, it was quite tragic. Guilt. It does come back to haunt them and I am intrigued. There’s a mystery going on and I haven’t figured it out…yet. 4 Stars

A Promise is a Promise by Joe Broadmeadow: A tale of childhood promises and a man willing to sacrifice it all to get his revenge. A predictable yet fun story. 3 Stas

The Game by Elle J Rossi: Would she win or lose the game? Twisted tale of life and death and it ended like I wanted. 3 Stars

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of the Run Anthology by Various Bestselling Authors.

This boxset contain short stories that are on the dark side. Not all are paranormal but they all do make you think about the consequences of actions by either you or others around you.

Resurrection Morning by Caleb Pirtle III: This short story is part of an on going series about Ambrose Lincoln who is an American spy who allows his memories to be erased before every mission. He feels this makes him a better spy as it allows him to not go into mission with any preconceived fear. Lots of twist and turns in a story set during Hitlers reign.

Black Out by Sue Coletta: A killer plays eenie meenie miney mo in picking out victims on Bear Cat Mountain. When a storm takes out power to 4 houses little do the neighbors know one of them has evil on the mind and one by one takes them out. Author throws a surprise ending in this one..

Sweeton’s Shangri-La y Rachel Aukes: When myth is really reality. A student in archaeology “borrows” a map that leads to a place called Shangri-La. He convinces his girlfriend to trek through the forest to find it while telling her the haunting myth behind it – not knowing that the myth was based on truth.

The Sideshow by Kimberly McGath: Very strange story with the stage being a creepy walk through the circus seeing multiple deaths that leads to a surprising (and confusing) ending.

Three Days by Jennifer Chase: One of the down falls about boxsets is sometimes the short length of the story makes it hard to get what the author is trying to convey. I think the point of this one was a woman who lived her life under such tight control at both work and in her personal life had a supernatural force step and and throw her in the middle of chaos to fight for her life so that when she came out of the nightmare she would finally slow down and notice the things she was missing out on in life.

Smile For Me by Kristine Mason: Kristine is one of my favorite authors. She writes a great suspense series with evil serial killers. I was curious on what her mind would come up with for a “horror” short story. So many women are vain and as they age they want to keep the youthful looks they once had and become very judgmental of those around them. Not happy with her husband whose only fault is gaining a few pounds over the years and never updating his wardrobe and envying her own daughters youthful skin she jumps as the chance to go to a bed and breakfast that her friend went to that left leaving looking years younger. What so many people don't understand about looks is – if your ugly on the inside that effects how you look on the outside – and in this twisted tale she finds that out the hard way.

Bleeder by Paul Dale Anderson: When push comes to shove none of us know what we are capable of until that moment. This one was especially evil (in a good way). When an armed injured man forces his way into a woman's house he thinks he has the upper hand with his death threats if she doesn't help him. That wasnt his first mistake in life but it was certainly his last. The “reveal” in this one was oh so good. Loved the twist..

A Love Story by Kathy Love: An urban legend tale coincides with a prank gone wrong by a group of high school students.

The pixies are causing trouble, and it is up to Josie and Keller to put a stop to it.

Josie is a great heroine. I like that she is strong and smart. I enjoy Josie’s conversations and sarcastic personality. She is very humorous.

She has a great group of friends: the vampires of Crimson Beat and Sage. She also has some useful contacts. I love their gift to her, complete with pretty read bow. You’ll have to read the book to find out what it was.

The pixies are entertaining foes. They are creative with their fighting. I mean seriously, spit balls, sick. I think Esmeralda had a death wish. I personally would not mess with Josie.

Indigo Dawn has a fast-paced and action-filled plot. It had numerous surprises and was interesting. This is a really great series that I look forward to continuing reading.

Vampire, Keller O’Leary, goes to Nashville to visit his sister and meets his mate, Huntress, Josie Hawk.

This is the prequel to the Josie Hawk Chronicles. I actually read it out of order and enjoyed Keller’s perspective.

It’s hard not to like Irish vampire, Keller. He is patient and strong. I value that he plays the drums. I also appreciate that he wants to be good, fitting in the human world and subjected himself to the Colony (aka vampire rehab).

I enjoyed learning about his background and some of the things he went through.

I like how he, and Josie met in this story and interact with each other.

Alabaster Nights is a well-written novella. It is a fast read that I could not put down and a great start to the series.

Crimson Beat (Josie Hawk Chronicles 0.6) by Elle J. Rossi

In this follow up to Alabaster Nights, Keller O'Leary comes back to Nashville with his band Crimson Beat.

I think the name of Keller’s band is appropriate for a bunch of vampires. We meet the band: Lucian, Matthew, Alex, Grant, and Keller. I like that they become protective of Josie.

Josie fights her relationship with Keller, and wants to discover why he is really in town. This is a great short story that was fun to read.

Huntress Josie Hawk protects the city of Nashville from dark creatures. Cross is not dead, and he’s coming back to seek revenge on Josie and Nashville.

Josie is a worthy heroine. She is loyal and protective of Nashville and her friends. She is brave and fierce. I like that she still comes off as being human: she worries about her father’s reaction to Keller and seems to avoid the confrontation. She is not perfect and therefore, realistic.

Vampire Keller O’Leary is intriguing mate for Josie. They care for each other deeply and will do anything to protect one another. They have an intense relationship that is fun to read about.

The plot was enjoyable. Josie and crew have some pretty extreme adversaries throughout the story. Midnight Masque is packed with excitement and mystery. The novel is well-written and flows well.

The Soother (The Brennan Coven Trilogy, #2) by Elle J Rossi

I never had the chance to read the first book in this series, but I did manage to figure everything out. Elle J. Rossi writing is very good, the story flows well and before you know it you’re swept into this story.

Calliope is a fantastic main character; I loved so much about her, she is a Soother (witch) and helps in every way she can to ease their pain. Krystoff who is a wizard/vampire and is full of darkness and Calliope knows she has to ease some of his pain. They do say opposites attract. Calliope and Krystoff are instantly attracted to each other and are meant to be together. But Krystoff mother Queen Riona does not agree.

The Soother is full of mystery, romance, good and bad and was one of those books you can’t seem to put down. The side characters in the story are quite interesting and I really cannot wait to read more.

I have to say the descriptions in this story are very well written and you can almost see the places in your head. Elle J. Rossi has done a fantastic job with this series and I for one will be adding Elle to my list of authors to read.

I have rated The Soother (The Brennan Coven Trilogy, #2) 4 stars and would recommend to anyone who enjoy the paranormal genre.

Not having read the first volume of this Crimson Romance Trilogy I was unaware of the protagonists’, Calliope the Soother’s, back story but it did not take me long to be pulled into her world of magic and mystery. I really connected with Calliope’s character of being someone who instinctively needs to care and help everyone in the world feeling a deep kinship with the populace. Love interest, Krystoff Dubhar, being a half vampire wizard and slowly corrupted by dark shadows seems like the natural polar opposite for the pure hearted white magic using Calliope. However their love is one for the ages, instant attraction for each other saves Krystoff but angers his mother Riona queen of shadows and darkness.

Beautifully portrayed scenery makes you feel as if you are in the witch’s village surrounded by fields and flowers seeing the decorations for their celebrations. By contradiction, the realm ruled by Queen Riona sends chills of musty fog through your mind imagining the slime oozing moss and decrepit forests. Krystoff’s mother is by the least amount of words the most cruel and soulless woman character to be found in fiction writing. The phrase “well that escalated quickly” was never used more appropriately than to describe Calliope and Krystoff’s intense relationship, turning from fascination and curiosity to a strong sexual fire.

I really was impressed by the side characters depth and strength to pull along the plotline in a positive way and improving the main characters resolve. Even the most of minor characters evolve farther into the story giving a greater background to this world shimmered by magic. Following the journey of Calliope as she tries to discover her true feelings, power, and loyalties I think everyone would gladly believe in her ability to accomplish anything. I honestly cannot wait to read the first and next volume in this dark fantasy series. Joyfully I would recommend this book to many of my friends who share the same interest in the genre.

Disclaimer: I know and adore Elle!

Chasing Fate is the final installment of the "Unspun Trilogy" and it couldn't have been better! Attie was my favorite fate and Dru was a full on sexy hero. I liked the chemistry that built between the two despite the conflict inherent in their first meeting. Chasing Fate was fun, sexy, and action packed. I definitely recommend this whole trilogy to any fan of paranormal romance!

This review was first posted at Just A Reader.

Elle J Rossi's latest novel Broken Flight is dark, dramatic, and compelling and is the first novel in a new series called Angels of Punishment. Anna is a very relatable character despite the fact that she's dead - or perhaps because of it. She has a great deal of mental and emotional issues but the one thing - the only thing - that matters is that the love of her existence, Grey, is alive.

But Anna is being watched, maybe even groomed, by Azrael who is one of the oldest and most powerful angels. He's also sadistic and enjoys torturing and punishing people. So when Anna breaks the rules, Azrael is there, ready and willing to use it to his advantage. Only he doesn't count on Grey or the depth of connection between our two protagonists.

Anna and Grey are reunited but it's hardly the easy and joyful homecoming they could have wanted. Their reunion is just the beginning of a chain of dangerous and deadly events leading to a culmination that only leaves the reader wanting more.

I couldn't put Broken Flight down and I can't wait for the second book in this striking and seductive new series.
