Carolyn Green Satterfield

Historic Site of Jefferson County, Alabama is a collection of photographs and descriptions of old houses and buildings dating from the 1840s to the 1930s. The really interesting thing is to see all the names that I had heard all my life without knowing who these people were and why they were important. Names like Robert Jemison, George Ward, B. B. Comer, and surnames like Tarrant, Munger, Loeb, Yielding, and Black. The most interesting name I saw was Mrs. Mary Read, AKA Aunt Polly. She sold butter, milk, and eggs from a horse drawn wagon. Aunt Polly donated a bell to the Five Mile Presbyterian Church. I grew up in Center Point near the headwaters of Five Mile Creek and there was a road nearby called Polly Reed Road. I always wondered who Polly Reed was, and it appears that she was the same Aunt Polly.… (mehr)
