Rezensionen

These loosely linked stories build one upon another until the riveting end. Savva is an insightful writer, observant and emotionally astute, with a knack for creating subtle suspense.

Nearly made it 4 stars. Loved the story but I prefer a less direct style of story-telling. I like to be shown feelings and emotions rather than be told.

Maria Savva has a way of writing stories that allows us to see issues from both sides, or maybe from a third viewpoint we'd never considered. Even within the spattering of supernatural, I saw and felt the emotional upheaval, and I believed it all.

Evil Never Dies is the perfect follow-up to The Spider. We revisit the characters to see how—and if—they survived the chaos of book 1. But this isn't just a book about closure. All sorts of craziness goes on to keep us off balance.

This is a complex story that looks at life, death, relationships, and all the struggles along the way. And of course there's the spider issue, and a creepy lingering evil.… (mehr)

I hate spiders. I have a visceral fear of spiders. I don't even like to see a photo of a spider. So, you see, even knowing that I've loved all of Maria Savva's previous books, I approached this one with trepidation. Most any other author and I'd have passed without even reading the description.

I am so happy that ignored my innate need to run the other way, and I read this book!

If you, like me, have an irrational fear of evil little beings called spiders, please don't let that stop you from picking up this book. The spider part is realistic and made my skin itch, but those creatures are a small part of a great story.

Maria Savva has a knack for giving us flawed, multi-dimensional characters that appear and behave like average humans. We don't have supermodels or macho heroes. Instead, we have real people living their lives, with all the heartache and hurdles along the way.

The plot ventures into the supernatural while remaining firmly rooted in reality. This makes the events extra creepy. I found myself going along with the characters into this bizarre other reality, in a house that holds all sorts of secrets, and totally believing it all could happen.

This story shifts between the intertwining lives of friends with their own agendas, and a psychopathic man happy to take advantage of those friends. In a sense, this is a cautionary tale of what could happen when greed and self-interest drive your actions. So read this one, and the next time you find yourself getting a little greedy, remember The Spider.
