After a glance-through: I think I'm going to have to buy this one for myself. 20 quilts that are a happy marriage of the things I love about traditional quilt blocks and DS's minimalist/modern improv-ish aesthetic. Even though I don't remotely need any more quilts in my life right now, I might have to start one asap.

Such good inspiration! I feel like there's a good variety of quick patterns and challenging projects (the Tobacco Leaf quilt will BE MINE one day), and of course, lots of colorful quilts to ogle for motivation. I like DS; she's solid and doesn't feel like some of the modern quilt fluff out there.… (mehr)

Denyse Schmidt seems to be on a mission to single
handedly get young people interested in quilt making. Her designs are simple and elegant and have interesting color combinations. The emphasis is not on matching points precisely, but making quilt projects with a lot of movement and fresh color choices. She also has a variety of different projects, one of which made me think that I actually could make a tote bag. Her writing style is fun. While some of the directions are a bit confusing, I think a beginner could walk away from this book with some nicely completed projects. I don’t usually buy project based quilt books, but I bought this one, because the designs stuck in my mind. And it is proving to be a good investment as I keep looking at it over and over.… (mehr)

The designs in here are modern and beautiful. Sure to please anyone who isn't into "traditional" (aka old-fashioned) quilts.

However, I found the patterns rather difficult for the bed quilts. Makes me wish that this book was on paper/foundation piecing instead of the use-photocopied-templates-to-cut-all-the-weird-pieces-and-keep-your-fingers-crossed-it-works method. I would have given this book a five if it wasn't for this "problem."

At least Denyse clearly illustrates every part and provides very clear patterns to be photocopied and enlarged, even if many of them are for the most advanced quilter. And the section covering quilting techniques in general was well written and very concise.… (mehr)

Beautiful! I cannot wait to start some of these projects. A delightful book that has introduced quilting to me - and done so with hip patterns, well thought out instructions, and radical colors. Inspirational.
