Rezensionen

This book covers the use of four plants, Amla, Cassia, Indigo and Henna, to naturally color hair. Christine Shahin writes confidently on how to choose, buy, mix, prepare and apply a large range of hair color options. Included are before and after photographs with realistic looking results.

Coloring hair naturally seems to be very on trend with health and eco-conscious people, and these methods have been used successfully for ages, all over the world. This book serves as your introduction and guide to taking care of coloring hair naturally.

My hair is weird. I've tried three times now to color it. The first time was using a temporary color to go red for a few days. "How's it look?" I asked someone. "How's what look?" they said. There was no appreciable change in the tint or hue of my hair. Then years later I splurged on my birthday, and spent a considerable amount of time and money having part of my hair dyed blue. It was a process that involved a flat iron, and a faint smell of singeing. I got to work the next day and – the area I had had done being on the back of my head – asked someone "What do you think?" "Of what?" was the reply. Turns out all of the dye had ended up on the collar of the shirt I was wearing at the time, and on my pillowcase that night; none of it remained in my hair. None. The third time was a virtual repeat of the first.

So I was curious about natural alternatives.

This is a beautifully arranged book. Really excellent photography accompanies and illustrates the text, and some very nice artwork, so altogether it's an attractive presentation. And the text is clear and concise, and thorough – and includes sources. Very nice, altogether.

The usual disclaimer: I received this book via Netgalley for review.
