I really liked this collection of short stories. I felt like there was a story that would appeal to anyone no matter what their taste. I’m not sure which stories were true and which were retellings of tall tales but I liked them all. My personal favorites were the ghost stories and the one where the mother handed her baby to a grizzly bear over the hedge. (Spoiler, the mother gets her back, unharmed).

I easily read this book in an afternoon. I was actually reading it in the waiting room of the doctor’s office and people kept asking me about the title. This book will definitely get people asking questions if you read it in public.

What I liked about this book was that every family has stories that are told over and over that everyone knows and looks back on with fondness. While some may not make a lot of sense or even be completely true, they’re part of the family’s history.

This book, though short, is quite compelling and a delightful way to spend an afternoon. I would read more from this author and more collections like this one.… (mehr)
