I gave this book a quick read/heavy scan today, looking for some trends that might have implications for our city. There are a few that certainly apply. However, I found the author to be overly techno-utopian in his outlook. I suppose he is just being honest about what trends he believes he sees. His trends all seem to be "like today - only more." More connected, more cars, bigger cities, more sustainability, etc. I really don't think he takes issues like resource depletion, overpopulation, or simply the carrying-capacity of the planet very seriously. So while there are some trends in his book that I think might be correct, it reads clearly as the product of a global business consulting company, concerned with what kinds of stuff they can sell in the future. Makes me glad I'm not involved in that world.… (mehr)
