The story is a standard murder mystery, written like a visual narrative. Elsie is informed her aunt was killed instead of the accidental death as believed initially. Along with talking dog, Lola, and talking cat, Cleo, Elsie investigates the case of her aunt's murder. On top of the investigation, Elsie has been tasked to manage the B&B on her aunt's behalf. The book is dialogue-heavy with only spurts of action, but readers get a good overview of the characters featured.

Set aside a long afternoon for this first book in the family-friendly contemporary paranormal tale about orphaned 17-year-old Caroline "Carly" Ravenspell who is summarily sent off to live with her grandmother Althea Ravenspell because Carly's Aunt Pattie claims Carlie is a "witch," which we all know is "polite speech" for the rhyming word starting with "b."

Read the first book, wasn't entirely satisfied about it and now the second book.
Don't read this book if you haven't read the first one. It goed back to a lot of stuff in the first book, it is the second part of a book to be honest.
You know, I liked Paige and I liked Dewey, but was entirely worn out at the end of the book. They go into an adventure, have to go in a second one to solve the first one, but then have to go in a third one to solve the second one... You get the drift. Entirely to much going on, no red line in this book.
It was disappointing. No third part for me. Two stars because I read to the end.

Disclaimer: I got this book in the Librarything Early Reviewers.

I admit it, I am really behind with my reviews and reading this one was months ago. I liked it, why not, I am a librarian myself, Dewey brings back memories, not all good. But there was something to easy accepting for Paige about it. But maybe the second one is better, I have that one too.

Growing up, I loved the show Warehouse 13, and was so sad when it ended. When I read that this book was urban fantasy with Warehouse 13 and the Librarians vibes, I knew that I had to read it. It definitely gave me major nostalgia to some of my favorite tv shows, but with the urban fantasy vibes of a KM Shea or Linsey Hall book. While it was missing the soft romance of these authors, it had the fun whimsical supernatural vibe present in their stories.

I did find that the pacing was a bit slow in the beginning, and it took a while for things to really get started. Then, at the end, things moved really quickly—jumping from location and task at rapid speed. While this definitely helped build the tension, I do wish things were spread out a bit more and that things kicked off a bit sooner. Warehouse 13 and the Librarians are notoriously go go go from the start. If you are going to compare yourself to these Series, you need to meet that energy. However, while things took a while to build, it was definitely worth the wait and it was a great start to a new series. I can’t wait to read the next book, and see what Paige and Dewey get up to next!

Set aside two days (or one extremely long one) for this delightful family-friendly contemporary paranormal fantasy in which librarians 34-year-old Paige Turner and 236-year-old teacup dragon Dewey Decimael are again charged with saving the world from destruction. There is at least one chortle.

I received a copy of this book from the author through Librarything Early Reviewers.

Paige Turner finds a job as a librarian in Shadow Harbor. Her archivist turns out to be a small teal dragon Dewey Decimael. Together they neet to retreive and shelve magical artifacts. We don't know much about Paige's past, except that she's an orpan, left outside a convent when she was a baby. Dewey comes from a family of large dragons. Their banter is great and they work quite well together.
The first half of the book is them getting to know each other and Paige getting used to the idea of werewolves, vampires and such. The second half is pure action from start ot end.
At first I found it hard to get into the story. The writing style was way too descriptive for me. Paige was constantly adjusting her glasses. But then the action started and I began to enjoy the ride.

I must first give some caveats. 1. I have not read the first book in this series about Paige Turner (pun clearly intended), a librarian who deals with supernatural threats, and her non-human sidekicks. 2. I am not a member of the target audience, which I assume is middle-grade or very young adult readers. 3. I was expecting more along the lines of a Patrick Rothfuss or Robert Jordan style fantasy. (Don't know why. Just was.) So it's not really my type of story, and I think it would be unfair to judge it as such.
However... I can say the book is written with a fun and snappy prose style with plenty of humour. I believe it will appeal to members of the target audience who are looking for a purely fun read with thrills and adventure while being light on the emotional scale.
While I might wonder why the 30-year-old heroine talks and thinks like a young teen, or why she takes threats to her life a little too lightly to seem plausible to me, I don't think younger readers will see that as a problem and will just enjoy the ride.

I had never read this author before, and I adore books about librarians, so I had to give this one a try. Paige is a very down-on-her-luck character at times, and I would love to learn more about her background as I feel we didn’t learn enough. She really came alive, though, when she began her new job as an archivist in the library. Dewey is also a great sidekick, and they have a fun adventure together. I kinda wish we had gotten to see more of Ronnie and maybe a few more characters, but I’m looking forward to the next one. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Exciting and fun, with lots of action and animals that can communicate with their human.

Moving Is Murder is the first book in a new cozy mystery series by author Nellie H. Steele, and I think it will be a great one! With underdog amateur sleuth Ellie Byrne, you get a 50-something woman on a mission to make good on her second chance at a happy, successful life. Ellie’s husband did her wrong, but she’s gotten the opportunity to make lemonade out of the lemon of a situation he left behind. The main character and her backstory are relatable, the murder mystery compelling, and the ensuing investigation solid with plenty of collateral action for the heroine to overcome.

The little town of Salem Falls, while quaint from the outside looking in, has its dramas bubbling right below the surface, and Ellie’s Aunt Susie was up to her eyebrows in all of it. As this is the debut novel of the series, readers meet a goodly variety of interesting town residents and business people, many of whom become suspects in Susie’s murders. Hopefully, most will return in future books.

I really enjoyed the personalities of both Lola and Cleo: very dog-like and cat-like, I thought. Cleo is somewhat sly and snarky, full of drama, and the smart one of the pair. Lola does what a dog’s going to do and gets carried away at times, barking at her surroundings and chasing things that maybe she shouldn’t. She has such a good heart, and I was completely caught up in her drama.

With a compelling plot and engaging characters, I recommend MOVING IS MURDER to cozy mystery readers who enjoy stories where animals can communicate with their humans, settings in the New York/Pennsylvania region of the United States, and more mature amateur sleuths.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving an Advanced Review Copy from the author through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours.

This book wasn't as great as the first in this series but it was still decent. It had a relatively slow start that didn't keep my attention well.

Shadow Charms is the second book in the Shelving Magic series. Paige Turner is an archive librarian at Shadow Harbour Public Library. Her job is to retrieve magical objects and books. Her partner is a teacup dragon named Dewey Decimal. In their last adventure, Paige was injured by a vampire, and the injury is not healing. Dewey is trying desperately to find a cure. They also have to avoid being found by the vampire who is still searching for Paige. At the same time, Paige and Dewey are given a new assignment to retrieve a dangerous wand from a group of evil pixies. The librarians have to race around the world retrieving magical artefacts and dealing with supernatural creatures. Paige’s origins, and the fate of her mother, continue to be mysteries that Paige and Dewey need to solve.

This is the second book in the series, and although I didn’t read the first, I found I didn’t have too much trouble figuring out what was going on. The book was a series of adventures full of fantasy and adventure tropes and slap-stick comedy. The beginning was a bit slow with some repetition of dialogue, but once the adventures started it moved fairly quickly. I found the book very silly, and some of the dialogue annoying. It was overall a fast, light read, appealing to fans of humorous fantasy.

Allow a day for this PG ahistorical piratical fantasy set in the region of the Gulf of Mexico, featuring naval maneuvers that one should most definitely NOT attempt in real life. Do NOT read in public places as guffaws will ensue.

Paige Turner is back in all her klutzy glory. Seriously it has to be a curse to be that unlucky. Fresh from her recent world save Shadow Harbors newest librarian must race around the world to stop shrieking pixies from creating a weapon that can tear apart the world. Together with Dewey, her snarky teacup dragon partner, she must save the day...even if she has turned purple! The story fast paced with alot going on. Once again there are several elements that aren't addressed or explained in this book. The hoped for potential romance with the mysterious neighbor is no where to be seen. We still don't know why a beast was hunting her. All the unexplored starts with no answers is frustrating. It was basically a light read, with a few fun elements taking place in the library with her cat. Would love to see more substance I. The next book. I have received this book as part of the Librarything Early Reviewers program for my honest review.

Paige Turner is dorky and clumsy, so clumsy you'de think it was a curse, yet she remains upbeat as she goes for her all important interview as a Shadow Harbor librarian, inspite of her running pantyhose and mud spackled shirt. But, when stumbles her way into her dream job she has no idea the world of dark, dangerous magic she has gotten herself involved with.
Forget shelving books, now, with the help of her snarky teacup dragon partner she must save the world from a multiplying werewolf army, dodge a supernatural beast stalker, and avoid making an utter fool of herself in front of her mysterious, sexy new neighbor.
The main story is interesting & fast paced with alot of quirky conversation between the main characters. There are several added elements that aren't fully explored or even given a reason or resolution for in this book. What is the link with her dead mother to the library? Why is the beast stalking her? Who is the neighbor really? Hopefully these will be explored in more detail in future books.
Overall a fun read and I look forward to the next book. I have received this book as part of the Librarything Early Reviewers program for my honest review.

Much like the first one -too much rushing around, too much happening not enough background or details as to why. The characters even elude to it at one point 'I'd sure like to know why' but they never do get an explanation.

Each quest appears to require a trip to three different locations each with it's own hazards and monsters plus the background characters 'development'. Just one would have been sufficient. Strangely they also have to return to russia, but nothing is mentioned of their previous visit. Maybe the target audience is supposed to be much younger teens who constantly rush everywhere, but I'm not sure they'd really be inspired by a librarian however cool Paige actually is. her luck seem sot hav egradually improve without any mention of it either.

just could be better.
