In a nutshell: This is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to make a fun cake. The instructions are very helpful and include detailed photos of each step. The book contains sections for each of the following (each is VERY helpful): Cake Basics, Techniques, Basic Recipes, Cookies, Cupcakes, Mini Cakes, Cakes, Conversion Tables, Resources, and Acknowledgements. This book contains everything you need to know to complete an entire cake that will be both fun and tasty! I followed the recipe for the buttercream frosting when I made my son's 2nd birthday cake, and everyone just loved how it tasted!

Readability: Very helpful and easy to follow. I found that the pictures really helped me to understand what I needed to do.

This is a dazzling book with fantastic, creative ideas for cakes, mini cakes, cupcakes & cookies. The book begins with basic information about cakes including recipes and techniques. Then there are chapters for each type of pastry. Everything in here is gorgeous and seems to be described in great detail in order to make it easier for novices. The photographs are beautiful! Note, these are some serious projects and it was written by Elise Strauss who owns NYC's famed bakery, Confetti Cakes. If you have the time and patience, you should definitely check this book out. It has some REALLY cool ideas in it! (I think I will start small....cookies or cupcakes.) Be warned though, once you serve these items to your loved ones, they will want you to do it for every event!… (mehr)

This bright, colorful book has been put together especially with children in mind. The author, who is also a pastry chef and bakery owner, was inspired by the memories of her own childhood cakes. Every page is inviting with patterned trim and bold colors surrounding pumpkin mini-cakes, pajama cookies and a backpack cake (complete with zipper!) among many others.

There are detailed instructions along with illustrations to help you create 24 different projects that include cakes, cupcakes and cookies. from beginner to advanced level. 20 different recipes for various flavored cookies, cakes, frostings and fillings are also included. The results will make your masterpiece delicious as well as beautiful. Extras include a conversion tables, photos and explanations of equipment and decorating tools, baking terms and decorating techniques.

Confetti Cakes for Kids by Elisa Strauss is a beautiful book. The beginning of the book focuses on tools, techniques, baking terms and lots of great tips. Following that, you’ll find recipes for cakes, cookies, brownies and icings. The last part of the book is filled with gorgeous pictures and directions to make absolutely stunning cakes and cookies. I love to sit and flip through the pages and admire these beauties. I cannot, however, imagine that anything I make would ever look like the cakes in the book. They look like they require hours of work and loads of talent. If I was able to make one of these, I would dare anyone to touch it, let alone eat it.
