A girl in a city rescues a sparrow confused by the city's night lights and learns how she can help: turn off lights, write letters, and put up window decals. The girl convinces her friends to help write to neighbors and business owners to explain the problem and "[ask] them to turn off their lights at night so the birds can see the starry map." The kids make art to hang in windows to keep birds from crashing into the glass. By the time the sparrows return north, the kids' campaign has worked and the birds have a safe trip.

Retired aircraft carrier the USS Oriskany, a.k.a. The Mighty O, gets a second career as a reef on the ocean floor off the coast of Florida - the world's largest artificial reef. The process of converting the aircraft carrier to a reef involves removing layers of harmful materials and carefully rigging explosives to flood and sink the ship just so. Will it work? Yes! Within hours, new life attaches to the ship.
