Qibli has always wished that he had the powers of an animus dragon. And facing off against Darkstalker makes him wish that all the more. Instead he must rely on his wits and the few enchanted items that Turtle left with him to thwart the schemes of the most powerful animus dragon ever. With the help of his friends he comes to realise that while magic is useful, it has its downsides, and he doesn't really need magic to make his friends like him better.

4.5 - I'm continuously very impressed by the quality of these stories and again could not put this one down. Glory is a very interesting character and the pacing of having her as the third point of view in the arc was a great choice in my opinion - the series is gathering steam and becomes able to tackle the more serious aspects, such as the themes of parental/guardian abuse, as time goes on. Glory is the ideal candidate to reckon with that: she has slightly more complex feelings about the world and people around her than Clay or Tsunami previously, and that lends itself to a far more interesting internal monologue. Plotlines and structures are getting a little more complex too, with an entire B plot and B cast being gradually seeded and developed in the background. I felt that the pacing of the A plot suffered slightly for both this and the worldbuilding, but I'm happy to forgive that as the tribe we're introduced to in this installment are so unique and enthralling. The hook for the next book is absolutely tantalising and I can't wait to see where this goes. I'm still continuing in my opinion that this is some of the best kids xenifiction in recent years.… (mehr)

I'm pleasantly surprised by how much this first book drew me in! This is a xenofiction series popular with Warriors fans, so it's been on my radar for a very long time (ten years, apparently..). The Dragonets are a loveable cast, Peril is intriguing, and I was surprised with just how much death was allowed for a kids' series. I love a series that isn't afraid to kill a character off.
I've ended up purchasing the first five books, so I'll definitely be continuing this read, at least for a while.… (mehr)

Introduces the main characters of the next couple of books in the series. Where a prophecy was made about a group of young dragons who will save the land from the three queens in the sand kingdom. Who are fighting for the throne because their mother died before any of them could challenge her for the throne. This first book is in the perspective of one of the male dragonets who is what they call a mudwing. After the loss of their mentors, who took their eggs before they hatched for the prophecy, were killed, he and the rest of the group ended up in an arena for some time. Where there was another dragon who’s scales would burn anyone who touched her. Except he was able to touch her because of something that had to do with his egg. When they were traveling they also went to a mudwing village where he found his family and learned some things about himself that explained some things about how he acted and behaved as a hatchling.… (mehr)
