An amazing story! Characters that are strong, full of will and life, a story that grips you from beginning to end. I really enjoyed it, and although it is not the first book in the series, the plot was well-explained that I was able to understand the story and how the characters in this book came to be from the previous book. I finished this book in two nights because I just couldn’t wait to find out how the story would end.

4.5 Stars

Anna Davis has run away from her abusive gangster boyfriend. She knows he will stop at nothing to find her and to kill her. She starts her new life when she meets Tanya Smith and becomes her flatmate, and eventually best friend and business partner. She also meets businessman Freddie Tyler. He seems the complete opposite of her ex, Tony. She loves how kind he is and how he is eager to make her happy. Now that she has these two fine friends, has Anna's life taken on the change she's needed? As a reader, I hoped so, because there are shocking things about both Tanya and Freddie, especially Freddie, that Anna will soon find out. And, is she truly free of Tony, who is as ruthless as they come?

Oh the terror and the excitement! I was equally proud of Anna and her resilient strength, but just as horrified at the thought that she might be caught by Tony, because if she is found, it will mean the end for her. Tony was brutal, and reading of his acts towards Anna and others truly scared me, making me worry about Anna's safety. Tony has everything at his disposal and has many people watching out and looking for Anna.

Although I have read crime thrillers before, this is indeed one that features organized crime members as central characters. I was glad that, although gritty, there was a huge measure of sensitivity in the story. I found this to be a smooth read and the hours just melted away into the night as I read this book through. Granted, I read fast, but this stunning book made that abundantly easy. I was gripped from the first page when Anna was running away. Wow! It was truly frightening. In this very moment, I knew Anna was going to be one of my favorite heroines. This excitement continued right through to the riveting conclusion, especially with the shocking twists and turns along the way. I am utterly amazed that this is a debut novel. It is written with fine detail, exceptional characters and an excellent narrative.

I am reading the next in this series, Dangerous Girl for review, so I purchased this book in order to know Anna and the situation that she was in. I don't know for sure, but I am fairly certain that I needed to read this book before reading the next. I am so glad that I did.

By the end of Runaway Girl by Emma Tallon, Anna Davis is finally happy. She is no longer in fear of her ex and is in a happy relationship with Freddie Tyler. Moreover, she is co-owner of a very successful London club with her best friend Tanya. But, she is suddenly worried about Freddie. She is under no illusions about his criminal lifestyle, but he is now keeping things from her and has even recently begun disappearing in the middle of the night.

Meanwhile, Freddie is more than angry. A girl has gone missing from one of his clubs and the police are certain that he has had something to do with it. Then, someone that he absolutely does not trust shows up and says that he'd better find the girl or else Anna will be killed. No matter the cost, Freddie does not want Anna to know of this ultimatum, but what's he to do when finding the missing girl goes without success and Anna's life really goes on the line.? As a man who loves his own deeply and unreservedly he is not going to let any of this go without a fight.

I am really glad that I read book one in this thrilling series before reading this. It gave me a solid background as to who the characters were, and how they were all connected. As much as I loved the first book, Runaway Girl, this one completely blew me away. Although it didn't generate the same about of fear and anxiety, Dangerous Girl had a different vibe. This story has a high element of danger when it comes to what could happen to the missing girl and to Anna, but it also delves a bit more into a couple of other characters, Freddie's brother Michael, as well as Tanya.

Since this book is about the world of gangsters there is a fair level of violence, but it is also peppered with sensitivity, especially when it comes to Freddie's character. He displays a real dichotomy of emotions in how he handles his gangster activities and how he deals with his loved ones. This is a fast-paced book, one that begins feverishly from the very start and ends with the most intense conclusion. Those last chapters are truly riveting. Dangerous Girl is indeed a captivating read.

As mentioned, this is the second book in the series and there are enough explanations to allow this to do well as a standalone, but I am one who enjoys connectivity with both the characters and the storyline, thus I purchased the previous title and read it immediately before this one. Now I have to wait for Book 3 and I really don't know how I am supposed to do that!

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC to review; this is my honest opinion.

Anna Davis has been managing her rather difficult life pretty well. Being involved with a criminal has its price, but Anna really is happy. Currently, Anna, who owns clubs with best friend Tanya, is being threatened. Powerful boyfriend Freddie Tyler has no idea what Anna is dealing with. Anna is struggling with Frank Gambino, a crime boss who wants her club. If she doesn't give in to his plans then Freddie's life will be in danger. So could her own life, but all Anna can think of is protecting Freddie.

Freddie already owns most of London's West End, but he desperately wants his next deal to go through. If it does, the Tylers will be even more powerful than the Gambino family. What Freddie does not realize is that his Anna has been threatened. This is a secret that Anna keeps from him, thus straining their relationship. While Anna is concerned with keeping this secret from Freddie while she strives to work things out on her own, she doesn't realize that she herself is in grave danger. She is being watched.

When Anna is discovered missing, Freddie is beside himself. He has a policeman in his pocket, but neither Freddie nor the police can find out who grabbed Anna and whether or not she is even alive. Freddie will stop at nothing to bring the woman he loves back to him. Freddie has good reason to worry about Frank Gambino and also Tanya's boyfriend Tom.

What a riveting book! The danger begins at the outset and never, ever lets up. As this book was developed there was absolutely no doubt as to the bond shared between Anna and Freddie and also Anna and Tanya. It was truly touching. The book is fast-paced, with surprising twists and turns. Although the backdrop of a criminal world was dark, the connection I felt to the characters was palpable. Not only was the conclusion done exceptionally well, there was sadness and suspense. So much so that there is yet another book in this engrossing series.

The first two books are Dangerous Girl and Runaway Girl. In those books we got to know Anna, Freddie and Tanya. In this book, Boss Girl, the background is dealt with well, so this does a fine job as a standalone. However, the entire series is gripping and so the other books make excellent reads.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
