Asher and Harper met when they were paired in a military support program. Harper wrote Asher letters. They fall more deeply in love when Asher meets Harper for the first time when he suprises her at her high school graduation. She is 18 and he is 19. All of this background is told to us as memories and not part of the main story. Flash forward several years and Asher has been discharged and has come to win back Harper after she has let him go with the gift of his dream car and a Dear John letter.

I liked this book. The story was interesting and had some unique twists. I did wish that it would have given more of how they connected early on with their letters and before their initial meeting. I felt it would have helped to make their connection seem even stronger to the reader. I wanted to read the letters and be a part of that. The background and details of the conflict in Harper's past are brought out as the story progresses. Explanations were given, but I thought this could have been more. Things didn't flow together with the story that was being told in the present. The additional characters were unique and had their own stories to tell. This book gave me the feeling that it was part of a series with secrets that I was missing from previous books. There were some editing misses that made reading awkward.

I am rating this book 3 stars because I really did like the story and the idea behind it.… (mehr)
