Not for me. Derivative magic school YA. premise seemed interesting but the characters quickly became annoying.

This is getting a high score because I enjoyed it... not because its a GOOD story. It has potential to get somewhere good.... but its not there yet. I don't understand vital plot lines that aren't actually utilized. The Hellhound was interesting in itself... but was under used. I dont understand the over all plot or where its going, the story cut off way too soon and used the tbc cheat. Why was the uncle a traitor? Whats so important about the other missing guy? Does Sam actually get any powers and bonds with the Hellhound magic.... or is she going to stay human and thats it? The politics and power games within the fae was underutilized too. I feel like there would be power grab attemps from other clans with someone as... in experienced as Lillith running things... Idk itd be cool to have fun urban fantasy GAY series out here... but this feels like a rough cut before the real story gets formed.

Cute, fast "beach read" with an interesting premise.

A fun start to a new urban fantasy / paranormal mystery series.

Half a star off each for two things. Firstly, it needed another review by the proofreader. Secondly, the puppy that kicked the whole thing off was conspicuously absent for most of the book (in an unrealistic way).

Amy’s a bit bored with her life of making and selling wands — and then one day a police detective walks into her shop, seeking her help to solve a magical murder.

This one was interesting. Good writing and interesting characters. But it let me down in two ways.
1. More editing, please.
2. Story structure — mystery novels follow a certain structure. Having the murderer not appear until the moment they’re caught? That’s not how this works.

Probably between a 3 and a 3.5.

Fates & Mates is a collection of books that any paranormal lover would kill to read. There is something about these books that I greatly enjoyed but Carline and Sean, Ana and Logan, Hudson and Zola, and Sienna and Theo were my favorites! What will yours be?

This was almost enjoyable but was just too childish for my taste.

Review of eBook

When detective Samantha Rain takes her recently-adopted blue wisp hellhound, Shadow, for puppy training, she expects a room filled with adorable puppies, not a mystery surrounding missing jewelry. Can she find the answers without stepping on important Nox toes?

This paranormal mystery, part of the author’s Samantha Rain Mystery series, follows the intrepid Samantha into the Fae world of the Nox. Although the mystery is straightforward, it takes a while to actually get to it. There’s a lot of discussion on how to train puppies; less on the paranormal world in which the story takes place.

Fans of the Samantha Rain series are sure to enjoy this adventure, but for the rest, the unseen world needs a bit more clarification. Still, for readers who like puppies . . . .

There's no inciting incident--no hook to grab the reader.
Also, the narration is on the tell side.
