Short story: nah brah, I have no want to finish this book.

Long story: Neither character made decisions - about themselves, their relationship or their communication - believably. It all either felt contrived for the plot or just... ridiculous. The romance didn't feel organic, the attraction fell flat once Becky decided OH NO HE'S HER WORST NIGHTMARE and I just had trouble believing he felt she was worth the hassle.

Four short Christmas stories about finding love under the Christmas tree. From a forlorn widow to an injured war hero to a Nashville fiddler to an old fling - all four were cute and hopeful. Obviously all four had ups and downs but ended on high notes - it's Christmas after all! Some stories are a little stronger than others - but they all were nice to listen to in audiobook form. Mostly clean - but there are steamy closed door scenes.

This is a read-alike suggestion for One Day. It's a cute, chuckle-worthy thing, well written. "Romance" as a genre still makes me crinkle my nose but I'm open to reading any good book nowadays.

Joanna Green is less than enthused to be going back to her tiny hometown of Halikarnassus, New York, after her attempts at a career in rock and roll have flamed out. At least until she meets library director Liam Byrd, who might just convince her that being back in Halikarnassus isn't as bad as it appears.

A sweet contemporary romance. While the writing has a couple rough patches a good editor should have caught (repetitions of similar descriptions of places/characters pretty close together in the book), the story is charming enough to compensate. Joanna is a prickly but sympathetic character and Liam is an excellent librarian who really loves the small town library life, even if he does have to deal with a lot of wrangling with city council over his library budget. From the library side of things, I can definitely say the book is accurate (benefit of the author being a librarian as well). Recommended if romances involving libraries are one of your faves, like they are for me.… (mehr)
