While the book clearly has a labor bias, it raises great points concerning the deceit in our current labor system. Not addressed was whether the behavior of our current system is due to post-Carter deregulation; the terms "capitalism" and "capitalist" do a lot of work here, where one could argue that if we continued to follow the New Deal model and allowed NLRB to fully function, our understanding of both of those terms could be different (and our country would be the better for it).

This book is infuriating -- because it's all SO TRUE.

"Today, one of the most powerfully appealing narratives about work is the one about the worker who performs work that he or she loves. These ideal workers become successful and wealthy precisely because they love their work, which they committed to through a rational and impediment-free decision-making profess that led them to the most perfect and enjoyable way to spend the hours between 9 and 6. In this story, wealth, pleasure, and work are intertwined and inseparable" (3).

Too much truth and very depressing. Hard to plow through because it had no leavening of hope for the future. Made me so happy I am old and retired.
