Andrzej Wajda was born in Suwalki, Poland on March 6, 1926. After World War II, he graduated from the Film School in Lodz and began making films. He directed more than 40 films during his lifetime including A Generation, Kanal, Ashes and Diamonds, Danton, A Love in Germany, Katyn, The Revenge, mehr anzeigen Tatarak, Walesa: Man of Hope, and Afterimage. Man of Marble won the International Federation of Film Critics prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Man of Iron won the Golden Palm at Cannes. He received the Japanese Imperial Prize for his contribution to film in 1996, an honorary Academy Award in 2000, and lifetime achievement awards from the film festivals in Venice in 1998 and Berlin in 2006. 130 minutes, The film is an adaptation of the 1929 play The Danton Case by Stanisława Przybyszewska. It concentrates on the relationship between Robespierre and Danton; it is not always historically accurate.
