- Charles Walters, Jr. (18 June 1926 – 14 January 2009) was born in Ness County, Kansas, the son of Carl and Dorothea Walters. Served briefly in WWII. He received his undergraduate degree from Creighton University and his masters degree in economics from Denver University on the G.I. Bill. Professionally, he worked as an economist and journalist with a number of books to his credit. His main professional focus was on raw materials economics. His work was greatly influenced by the works of economists Carl H. Wilken, Charles B. Ray, and John Lee Coulter. He served as a president of the National Organization for Raw Materials before leaving the profession in 1970 and founding Acres Magazine, USA, the Voice of Eco-Agriculture in North America, where he worked until his death in 2009.
