I grew up going to the Lake of the Ozarks in the 80's and 90's. My dad has been going since the 1950's. Apparently his childhood spent there was during the Lake's golden age. I didn't know this, but it explains his fondness for the memories of the family trips of his youth.

I haven't been to the Lake in over a decade now. People who do still go tell me that towards the Bagnell Dam end of the Lake the water is so choppy, likely due to the enormous boats endlessly cruising around. The result is that this isn't the serene Ozark lake of half a century ago. However, the further away you get from Bagnell Dam, and the closer you get to the Warsaw end, or if you visit during the off-season, the Lake of the Ozarks can still be a picturesque, cozy Midwest getaway.… (mehr)
