Su Wei

This was all-around gorgeous: the prose, the characters, the world-building, the narrative arcs. I'm still processing the work as a whole but I'd absolutely recommend giving it a read! It's the sort of novel that will end up being studied in college classrooms in coming years, and will delight students in the process!

Quite an enchanting book. The story of the reeducation of a young man, both in terms of his work in the countryside away from scholarship and in terms of love. The love story includes a ghost-bride, a polygamist wife, and a small "tribe" of drift-people.

Well translated with lyrical wordplay in English that captures the feeling and artistry from Su Wei's original text. Highly fun to read, and a different take on reeducation in the country.

What a surprising and delightful book. It's not what I was expecting. It is mystical and magical. The main character who is supposed to be getting reeducated in China's countyside instead ends up tending cows in the hills, marrying a ghost-wife and being schooled by "drift people" who teach him more than he could have hoped for.

Unfortunately unreadable on my kobo. Could not get a good conversion to epub and the pdf received has fonts way too small.
