An interesting book but, perhaps, not as interesting as I had hoped. I guess the author had spoken to the various artists and recorded their responses .....they were mainly along the lines of I sketch when ever I can, or I sketch because I have freedom with a sketch that I can't get with the finished work. But it's mainly about how the artists feels about sketching rather than actually how they do it. I was hoping that we would have more practical suggestions ...like take a bunch of 5x7 cards with you and an HB pencil...but there is almost nothing in the way of technique or materials. A bit but really very little. One thing was good and that was that there are a lot of different sorts of artists represented...from landscape in watercolour to Manga and oil painters.
It didn't make me want to drop everything and become an artists because I noticed that those represented in the book almost all seem to be surviving by teaching others how to draw or paint. Even those who seem to be reasonably successful.
Did I learn much? Well, in truth NO. Will I keep the book? Decision time! On reflection...no I won't ...I have really limited shelf space and a wife who is constantly at me to reduce my book collection...so this will have to be one of those that gets recycled. Two stars from me.… (mehr)
