This book is a fascinating, brilliant, and suggestive book, to be read and appreciated both for spiritual insights and for the authors astute observations on artistic creativity and spiritual practice.

Very interesting book. I particularly liked the chapter Panics and Pandemics. Very interesting to look back at what were such big media stories through a lens of time and additional knowledge.

My only quibble, SARS did not strike in the Scarborough Grace hospital in British Columbia. It was Ontario.

Some good information here—but whether it was due to my own prickliness or something that was really coming from the author, I couldn't shake a sense of paternalism, or something hovering around disdain in discussions of certain trends or individuals who'd bought into them. Perhaps just an example of how difficult it is to walk that fine line between honest criticism (or even attempted objectivity) and derision.

An absolutely spot on description and analysis of the mindset, attitude and expectations of rural America. Living in a small town in Nebraska, I see all around what is detailed in this book. an extensive set of footnotes and a list of suggested reading at the end of the book. Read this and understand why we we as a nation are where we are at today.
