Über meine Bibliothek

This is a collection of various military books on history, identification of military badges, patches, insignias, uniforms etc. I've been a collector since 1973 as a Cub Scout in West Germany when my family was posted there. The first item I received not realizing at the time that I would start a collection years later, I received a single rack of World War One ribbons from our landlord when we were residing in Romford, Essex, England in 1969.

At the time there were no materials that I was able to identify my collection. Since there were no computers or bookstores that we have now to acquire the various books. Unless the service members of the various countries were donating the items to me. Until 1975, when my father was assigned to Fort Lee, Virginia "Home of the Quartermaster School". Here I was able to visit the museum on the fort that had a supurb section of the United States Army insignias, uniforms & all sorts of military items. My goal was the best of the museum to identify the patches & unit crests or DUI (Distinguished Unit Insignia) to identify so many items on a piece of cardboard. Later I was able to utilize the reference books at the library on post that were not permitted to checkout from the military library.

Über mich

Being born at the US Army, 34th Gen Hospital at La Chapelle, St. Mesmin, Loiret, Orleans, France began my life as a military dependent, accompanying my family on many tours of duty, some in the United States but mostly overseas. I was thus able to enjoy the best of both worlds…being privileged to enjoy the American way of life while experiencing the culture & adventure of living & traveling in foreign countries, all of which has broadened my education & personal development.

My family served in various military forces due to my father being English & my mother being Spanish. I had relatives who've served in various branches in the military in various conflicts & in peace time. As my father served in the Royal Navy as a seaman & later as an Engineer Officer with the Merchant Navy. In 1959 he enlisted in the U.S. Army & retired in 1986 as a Command Sergeant Major. In 1983, I too enlisted in the United States Army later in the Texas National Guard & with the Army Reserves with a total of nearly 30 years. Served more time on Active Duty in the Regular Army.
