The SHC (Sarah Holmes Collection) is a lending library of LGBTQIA+ resources that was founded as a way to provide students at the University of Southern Maine access to Queer writers and literature, discretely and at no cost. The collection currently lives in the reading room on the 3rd floor west wing of Philippi Hall. This location was chosen because the floor is home to one of the two Rainbow Living and Learning Communities at USM and is out of the way of heavy foot traffic so students can browse and borrow from the collection semi-privately. Students living outside of Philippi Hall can contact the Office of Residential Life at usm.reslife@maine.edu in order borrow from the collection. Borrowing from this collection is based on the honor system. We depend on books to be returned in order to keep this resource available.
