Über meine Bibliothek

A compact “Library of Borea”. Very non-exhaustive of my total reading or ownership, but inspiring & representative enough.

Borea = my vision & understanding of the wider Scandinavian North as an amphibious counter-empire. Half [myth + history], half [SF + credible future].

  • The Medieval North - most broadly conceived thematically, ie viewed through rigorous, up-to-date scholarship as well as through myth, fantasy & modern geek culture. Also broadly conceived geographically. Yet always with Norse Scandinavia as its inner temporal & spatial heartland.
  • The Long Enlightenment c1651-1918. Enlightenment Europe - industrial, scientific, political - as “Long” as it's at all conceivable to stretch it. Beginning it here very early, say near mid-1600s, & ending it just as late, in a 2nd Industrial Age which recedes only with World War I & (temporarily) lost illusions about human progress.
  • Elements of Space-Ready Industry. How to develop a spacefaring economy & society, viewing the whole as a Total (neo)Industrial System. A selected micro-library on technology, space, & some complex organisation techniques useful to a new industrial age.
  • Crime, Spy, Assassin. Little in this world is what it claims to be - those who know do not speak, & conversely - so the man of resolve schools himself to take this fact of life into account.
  • Ancient Worlds. The thalassocracies of Greece, Rome, & the early Mediterranean world.
