Tracking reading on LibraryThing has given me a sharp sense of how few books I'll actually manage to read in my lifetime compared to the many excellent and enjoyable books that are published each year. It's deepened my appreciation of the gems I encounter, while reinforcing my skepticism of lists of 'must reads'.
