Über meine Bibliothek
The Portuguese Education Department Resource Centre was created to improve and strengthen the Department’s capacity to promote and enhance the teaching and learning of the Portuguese language and culture in the United Kingdom.
The Portuguese Resource Centre is a non profit institution, promoting literacy by supporting communities of educators and by partnering with those communities to develop a comprehensive system of proficiency-based tools for lifelong language learning and teaching. It establishes and maintains networks among Portuguese teachers and researchers.
The Centre encourages a variety of pedagogical approaches to accommodate learner diversity and advocates the integration of language and culture learning and the acquisition of fluency in these areas. It facilitates dialogue among teachers, learners and institutions from a wide variety of educational perspectives.
The collection of the Resource Centre has been formed over many years. Its creation can be traced to the Department’s Foundation. The Resource centre has always been responsive, first and foremost, to the needs and interests of Portuguese language teachers and learners. While no resource centre can any longer aspire to being comprehensive in its resource coverage, the Portuguese Resource Centre nevertheless collects widely and in depth in its areas of traditional strength: Portuguese language and literature.
Increasingly the Resource Centre is seeking to work in closer collaboration with other institutions, developing co-operative partnerships and making available living documents to teachers and learners, which focus the collecting efforts of the Portuguese Resource Centre.
The collection is available in the reading room and either for loan or for copying and delivery to the researcher, when formally requested.
Über mich
The Portuguese Education Department is responsible for the teaching of Portuguese in the United Kingdom. It acts on behalf of the Portuguese Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education and is based at the Consulate General of Portugal in London.
The organization of Portuguese courses for young people of Portuguese descent is this Department’s main activity. These courses involve the teaching and assessment of competences in Portuguese. The Portuguese Language Schools Programme (PLSP) has been developed over the past few years and consists of the organization of Portuguese courses at pupils’ schools; the PLSP helps build cooperative / constructive relationships with schools, facilitating the teaching process and the integration of pupils / parents and Portuguese teachers into the school community. The services provided by the Portuguese Education Department complement the teaching practices in English schools and contribute to the easier learning of the English language by pupils of Portuguese descent, since the best way to learn a second language is to begin by being fluent in your mother tongue.
