Books I've Dabbled in This Year

** This category reflects my attempt to read more poetry, short stories, and essays, but without always committing to reading every piece in every collection. I'm also continuing to practice letting myself not finish books that aren't serving me — at least, for now. In time, some of these texts may move up into the "fully read" list. For now, though, want to preserve a space to keep track of my dabbling.

Timothy Morton. The Ecological Thought. (Teaching text)
Anna Tsing. The Mushroom at the End of the World. (Teaching text)
David Abram. The Spell of the Sensuous. (Teaching text)
David Abram. Becoming Animal: An Earthly Cosmology. (Teaching text)

Über mich

I am a scholar and a performance maker who lives and teaches in Portland, Oregon. I completed my Ph.D. in English at Princeton University in 2017, and since then I have taught in the Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies at Pacific Northwest College of Art, which is now part of Willamette University.

I am a specialist in postcolonial literature, with particular emphasis on African literatures (mainly in English and French, but also Swahili). My other research and teaching interests include environmental philosophy, decolonial theory, world literature, translation studies, and the history of the novel. My first book, Unsettling Nature: Ecology, Phenomenology, and the Settler Colonial Imagination, was published by the University of Virginia Press in March 2022.

In Portland, I also work as a contemporary dance artist. I've performed in numerous companies, such as the site-specific group POV Dance and Eliza Larson's FaultLine Dance, and I've also presented original work, such as 2010's Tinnitus and 2017's Abominable. New work, tentatively titled Extinction Mass, is still in the early stages of conception.

Finally, I have a website, The Exploded View, that features long-form essays with an emphasis on world literature in translation. You can also find more information there about my other publications as well as my performance works. Please check it out!
